About PDF to OCR Converter
The PDF OCR Converter transforms scanned and image-based PDFs into fully searchable, text-selectable documents using Optical Character Recognition. If you have ever received a PDF where you cannot highlight text, run a search, or copy a paragraph — that is a scanned PDF. OCR reads the image content and extracts the real text, making the document behave like any digitally created PDF.
Scanned PDFs are widespread in legal, medical, government, and archival contexts. Physical documents — paper contracts, printed reports, handwritten forms, mailed notices, and historical records — become PDFs through scanning. But scanning creates a PDF that is essentially a photograph of each page, not a document with real text. The words are visible but not machine-readable. You cannot use Ctrl+F to search, select a passage to quote, copy a client’s address from a form, or feed the content into a document management system that requires searchable files.
OCR solves this problem by applying computer vision and AI to recognize the characters in each page image and convert them into actual text. The result is a PDF where every word can be selected, searched, copied, and used — while the visual appearance of the page remains the same.
Scan quality is the primary factor determining OCR accuracy. Clean, high-resolution scans at 300 DPI or higher with strong contrast between dark text and a white background produce very high accuracy — typically 98% or above for standard printed fonts in good condition. Lower resolution scans, pages with coffee stains or damage, text that is very small or uses unusual decorative fonts, and pages scanned at an angle will produce lower accuracy and may require manual correction.
After OCR processing, the resulting document can be further converted using the PDF to Word or PDF to TXT tools, or imported into any document management system that requires searchable PDFs.

Frequently asked questions
OCR (Optical Character Recognition) scans image-based or scanned PDFs and recognizes the text within them, converting it into searchable, selectable, and editable text.
The tool works best with printed text. Handwritten content may be partially recognized depending on legibility, but typed or printed documents produce the most accurate results.
Yes. The OCR technology accurately recognizes text in multiple languages, making it suitable for international documents and multilingual PDFs.
A scanned PDF contains images of pages rather than actual text data. You cannot select, copy, or search text in a scanned PDF because to the software, each page is just a picture. OCR reads the image and extracts the underlying text, making it behave like a regular text-based PDF.
