About Currency Converter
The Currency Converter fetches live exchange rates and converts between 46 major currencies instantly. Enter your amount, choose the From and To currencies, and hit Convert — the result shows the converted amount, the mid-market exchange rate, and the inverse rate so you can cross-check in either direction.
How currency conversion works
Every currency pair has an exchange rate — the price of one currency expressed in terms of another. This tool uses mid-market rates: the midpoint between the buy and sell price, sourced from open.er-api.com. These are the fairest reference rates available, though banks and transfer services will apply their own markup when you actually exchange money.
The formula is straightforward: if you want to convert amount A from currency X to currency Y, and the mid-market rate for 1 X = R units of Y, then the result is A × R.
Live rates vs approximate rates
Rates are fetched when you load the page and cached in your browser for one hour. A green dot next to the result confirms live rates are in use. If the fetch fails — offline, API error, or timeout — the tool switches to built-in approximate rates (indicated by a grey dot). The calculation still works; the rate may be slightly stale.
Mid-market rate vs what you actually get
The rate shown is the mid-market (interbank) rate. What you get from your bank or a currency exchange will be slightly worse — typically 0.5–4% depending on the service and currency pair. For international transfers, services like Wise or Revolut offer rates much closer to the mid-market rate than traditional banks. Always check the actual rate and fees before sending money.

Frequently asked questions
Rates are fetched live from open.er-api.com, which sources data from the European Central Bank and other official sources. They are mid-market rates — the midpoint between buy and sell prices — which are the fairest benchmark for a conversion. Banks and money transfer services add their own margin on top of the mid-market rate, so your actual conversion will differ slightly.
Rates are fetched fresh every hour. Your browser caches the rates for up to 60 minutes, so if you convert multiple times in the same session the page does not make a new network request on every click. Reload the page after an hour to get the latest rates.
If the rate fetch fails — due to being offline, a network error, or the API being temporarily unavailable — the tool falls back to built-in approximate rates. A grey dot and a note will appear below the result to let you know approximate rates are in use. The calculation still works; it is just not real-time.
The tool covers 46 major world currencies including USD, EUR, GBP, INR, JPY, CAD, AUD, CHF, CNY, SGD, AED, SAR, MXN, BRL, ZAR, KRW, THB, IDR, MYR, PHP, PKR, NGN, EGP, KWD, QAR, and more. Cryptocurrency is not supported — use a dedicated crypto tool for BTC, ETH, or similar.
